Security and defence
Traditional communication and command systems supported information transfer from the battlefield to the headquarters (HQ) and transfer of its decisions to individual units in the field. However, the modern time doctrine of the maximum efficiency of military and peace operations with a minimum engagement of forces requires the development of comprehensive military information systems (MIS). Modern MIS support data exchange between the participants and the common operating picture (COP), which makes command more efficient and the entire cycle quicker: observation, orientation, decision, and action. Since individual countries have begun to develop their own systems, NATO has started to set up interoperability standards which provide the basis for the mutual linking of national systems, with the aim of a more efficient link-up between national military forces in military and peace operations. NATO has also established standards for linking up the military information infrastructure of member states. The development of a unified reference model is a huge and demanding project from the organisational and information points of view. It is also demanding to set up or adjust individual national MIS to meet the NATO standards. New doctrines of warfare and integration in Euro-Atlantic organisations also change the needs of military facilities and land. Some military facilities have been modernised, a lot of military real estate is soon to have different serviceability. For these reasons, real estate management and the development of activities for military purposes have become an important issue for the army as well. The area of defence is very specific; therefore, there are but a few companies which are capable of independent operation in this field. In order to satisfy the needs of the NATO member state armies and NATO as a whole, the integration of various organisational and technological particularities is needed in order to provide complete solutions. OUR WAY OF WORK IGEA has gained vast experience in the development of complex geographic information systems on the national and international levels, and also in real-estate management and real-estate development, which can prove useful for military purposes as well. We are involved in the setup of spatial data infrastructure for the Slovenian army, both as an infrastructure holder of the NATO cluster projects and as a provider of services in the development and use of military ICT systems. For the purposes of the NATO cluster projects, a business partner network has been set up, which enables us to work as:
As a provider of services in the development and use of military ICT systems, our purpose is to assist clients in achieving a higher level of modern technology use, with an emphasis on the NATO operability, network warfare, command and control systems, management systems, and functional subsystems.
